Mozilla Concept Series: Seabird, A New Mobile Phone Concept

Mozilla has done a community-driven exploration in mobile phone technology called “Seabird”. The Seabird introduced new technologies like motion capture and projector driven from which user can experience a new way to interact with the mobile. Seabird uses the dongle to gesture the manipulations in 3-D space.

Mozilla’s Seabird also has technology named IR Touchpad Area, Dock which simply serves the purpose of projection. This also has 8 MP camera, Dual Projectors which produces 960*600 projections, Embeeded bluetooth dongle, Wireless charging capability & a mini-USB.The main feature of this concept would be Infrared QWERTY keypad detector.

Ericsson’s Spider Computer concept

Ericsson’s new concept is a working Spider Computer. Initially meant as a computer for third world countries, but was changed to become something more of a portable computer during the study.Spider Computer, a portable device that relies on a projected screen and laser keyboard to offer you a ready computer on the go. That’s why it has three thin legs like a spider. When they are hidden, the device becomes a mobile phone. It can be simply put in your pocket. And when the legs are deployed, the device can easily be placed on a flat surface. This will be the computer. The mirror head opens, and the projection is directed towards the table surface or a wall. Digital correction compensates for angular differences in projection versus surface. Circular LCD display with graphic interface. Working prototype was made for technology, user studies and research.

The current prototype has a built-in pico projector, a laser keyboard and a memory card reader. Ericsson is working on a clever way to integrate a long lasting battery and of course internet connectivity.
